Why choose unfinished wood over pre-finished wood?
 
Unfinished flooring provides a smooth even surface without grooves (Micro-beveled).  This flooring is easier to clean, as dirt and moisture will not get into the small grooves.  An unfinished floor would be installed, sanded and finish/coated on-site.  This is the only way to achieve a smooth and perfect finish.


Engineered Wood Products 

What is Engineered flooring
  With engineered wood flooring, the wear (the upper or visible layer) is made from the valuable hardwood, whereas the core and back are made from layers of less valuable woods. These various layers are then laminated (glued) together, and finally machined into flooring (Source: Wood Flooring International). 

Pre-finished Wood Products

What is Pre-finished flooring
  Factory sanded and finished that only needs to be installed. Usually factory finished with 10 coats of aluminum oxide finish. Aluminum oxide finishes are 10 times more abrasion-resistant than other finishes. When looking at pre-finished flooring you will notice a micro-bevel. A micro-bevel is a tiny groove in between each board. Don't worry, though—with the urethane finishes being applied at a factory today, the beveled edges are sealed completely.
